Peripheral devices
A peripheral device is any external device that provides input and output for the computer.
In other words, input and output devices are collectively called peripheral devices or simply peripherals.
Examples :- keyboard , monitor, mouse , printer, scanner, etc.
Peripheral devices ports :-
Port are used to connect input and output devices.
These are nothing but connecting points.
Ports in a computer are of various types :-
Serial ports
Parallel ports
USB ports
Ethernet ports
HDMI port
Serial port
Serial ports transfer data serially, one bit at a time.
Serial ports come in the form of 9 pin connector.
Parallel ports
Parallel ports transfer data 8 bit or one byte at a time.
Parallel ports are faster than serial ports but require more number of pins.
Parallel ports come in the form of 25 pins connector.
Parallel ports are generally used to connect printer, scanner , CD drive , DVD drive etc.
USB port
USB stands for universal serial bus.
It was developed to eliminate the need of complex and costly 8 pins and 25 pin , serial and parallel ports.
It is standard, easy to use , way to connect a variety of devices to a computer. Such as printers, scanners, mouse, mobiles, digital cameras etc.
Ethernet port
It is used to connect ethernet cable. Ethernet is a system to connect multiple computers in a Local Area Network (L A N ). It is used for data transfer between computers and also for internet.
HDMI port
HDMI stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface. It is used to high definition HD video and audio.
